Legal Rights

An individual can use his/her legal rights to deal with various incidents that happen in day-to-day life. But, most of them didn’t acquire proper awareness about their legal rights. They didn’t know that the Constitution had given them some rights to protect themselves in various situations.

In this discussion, we’re going to be your legal advisor and tell you everything you need to know about your legal rights to get protected from fraudulent activities in your daily life. So, no matter whether you’re a normal individual or an aspiring corporate lawyer this discussion is going to be very beneficial for you.

What are the legal rights?

Legal rights are a set of rules or rights that are given to every individual living nationwide by law. These rights exist to ensure fairness, protect freedom, and provide justice to every individual. All these rights are outlined in the constitution of the nation. Let us tell you what about your legal rights that are given to you by your constitution.

Right to freedom of speech

The right to freedom of speech is one of the most important rights given in every democracy to its citizens. In many countries (including India), people are free by the law to express their opinions and beliefs without any fear of governmental censorship or any kind of legal punishment.

This allows us to speak up on what we believe and what we want to express. This right helps the people of a nation to raise their voices against issues around them. Not Only This, it also protects the media enabling journalists to report an issue of public interest.

Right to privacy

The 2nd most important right, which was first introduced in a legal program course when I was learning legal rights, is the right to privacy.

The right to privacy helps to protect individuals from unwanted intrusions into their personal lives by the government, businesses and others. The right to privacy assures you that all your rights are completely protected (communications and information) from any other entity unless there is a legal reason to access them. For example:- if you’re spotted in a criminal activity or involved in criminal activity and the court has issued an order or warrant against you in that case, you don’t have your right to privacy.

Otherwise, all your data, communications and information are completely protected from other entities.

Right to fair treatment

It is your right to get fair treatment no matter what you’ve done. Suppose a person has committed a severe crime that is unacceptable by society and law. Still, you’ll get the chance to face a fair and impartial hearing along with access to a lawyer. Also, you’ll have the right to present your case.

Right to equality

This fundamental right will assure you that you will be treated equally under the law without any kind of discrimination based on race, gender, religion, disability, and others. There are separate anti-discrimination lawyers for every country that treat every individual equally.

Right to own property and right to freedom of assembly

The right to own property gives you the right to a person to acquire, use and transfer the property to any individual. Along with this, the right to freedom of assembly allows individuals to gather in groups for peaceful protests, events and other gatherings.

Right to education

In India, children are entitled to receive education. Education is not just a right but it’s a need to ensure survival in this competitive world. It provides knowledge and skills to individuals and makes them able to create a healthy society. So every person who was born in a democracy has a right to get educated.

Right to vote

In all democratic countries, every citizen is allowed to participate in choosing their government. This right will ensure that every individual has the right to elect the person who represents them in government. People participate in the voting of various state representatives and national representatives and show who they want to represent them.

Examples of everyday situations where legal rights apply

Deep Knowledge of the legal laws acquired from the legal school or any legal courses is very crucial for a better living in a nation. This protects you from getting cheated by scamsters and tackles them with legality.

  • You can exercise your right to speech by posting opinions on social media, taking part in peaceful protests and/or writing a blog about an issue you care about. No matter who you are, you can write your compliments, comments, suggestions, criticism and other things freely, and no action will be taken against you until your speech incites violence or involves hate speech.
  • Suppose, you’re shopping online, and you’ve entered your credit card details. Here, the privacy law works and helps to protect your card details from other businesses. Also, this right to privacy protects your data from being used by companies without your consent.
  • Right to fair treatment works when you feel that you’re treated unfairly. You can bring the complaint to the court and the court will hear both sides and give their verdict accordingly.
  • In case you have applied for a job and you’ll not get selected because of your race, caste or others then you have the right to file a complaint regarding the right to equality.
  • If you want to raise a march to raise awareness regarding climate change, you have the right to organize a gathering, and it is completely legal under the provision of the right to freedom of assembly.
  • Without any kind of discrimination based on any aspect, every child has the right to education to be a part of a healthy society.
