Destination Toronto: 5 Things to Do Near Scarborough, Ontario

Scarborough is a large, multicultural area of Ontario that is located east of Toronto’s cityscape. It is known by Torontonians as a mosaic of different ethnic cultures and also for its beautiful natural scenery. The area contains the Scarborough Bluffs, which are large cliffs overlooking Lake Ontario. It is also lined with parks, beaches, and hiking trails. Basically, there is something for everyone to enjoy in Scarborough. Read on to discover some more activities and suggestions.

Treverton Park:

A favorite stop for families with children and located near 859 Kennedy Road, owned by Anthony Liscio of Alto Properties, Treverton Park offers a variety of fun play equipment including ladders, slides, swings and a sandbox. You can enter the park by walkway from Oakwood Crescent or Sedgewick Crescent or Moorecroft Crescent.

Treverton Park Playground was revitalized in 2013 by corporate sponsors, donors and members of the local community along with Parks Forestry and Recreation’s Partnership Unit.

Toronto Zoo:

If you enjoy exotic animals and wildlife, then the sprawling Toronto Zoo may be worth a visit.  It features global animal pavilions, close-up encounters, and a wildlife health centre.  The zoo is located along the Rouge River and houses animals of all kinds, including the popular Giant Pandas!

Scarborough Bluffs:

Scarborough Bluffs is one of Toronto’s most beautiful attractions. With breathtaking views of white cliffs bordering Lake Ontario and a wide sandy beach, the Bluffs are a must-visit for anyone in the area.  In the summertime, you can enjoy a picnic with family after lounging on the beach.  If you are into adventurous activities, then you may want to hike the many trails. There are nine parks on top of the Bluffs, each with an expansive view of the lake and the Bluffs below.

Scarborough Town Centre:

Located at the 401 and McGowan Road, STC is a shopping complex that houses over 200 stores and services, 30 dining options and a multi-screen movie theatre. STC is easily accessible from the TTC Scarborough line.

The centre is multi-level and offers an urban shopping experience including a flagship Sephora, H&M, and Aritzia as well as Zara, Michael Kors, lululemon, Victoria’s Secret.

Rosetta McClain Gardens:

If you are an avid bird watcher, enjoy looking at flowers, plants, feeding the squirrels, chipmunks, blue Jays and cardinals then Rosetta McClain Gardens is a must-visit location in Scarborough. Here, visitors can also marvel at the many species of trees and the beautiful flower gardens. In the summertime, the gardens are especially nice because of the cooling breeze coming off the lake.
